Role Overview

Our client is a modern accounting and financial services company providing accounting and financial support to companies and startups across Bulgaria, the UK, and the US. The company works with a diverse portfolio of clients and focuses on modern tools, efficient processes, and long-term client partnerships. As the team continues to grow, our client is looking for an experienced professional to join them as Head of Accounting.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and develop the accounting team.
  • Oversee the full accounting process for a portfolio of companies.
  • Supervise monthly and annual closings, financial statements, VAT returns, and tax reports.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and timely completion of accounting activities.
  • Review the work of accountants and support the team in resolving complex accounting cases.
  • Communicate with clients and institutions, including the National Revenue Agency (NRA) and National Statistical Institute (NSI).
  • Advise clients on accounting and tax-related matters.
  • Improve internal accounting processes and introduce best practices.
  • Support the training, mentoring, and professional development of the team.
  • Monitor changes in accounting and tax legislation and ensure their proper implementation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience.
  • Previous experience managing, coordinating, or mentoring an accounting team.
  • Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle.
  • Hands-on experience with VAT, annual closing, financial statements, and tax reporting.
  • Good knowledge of Bulgarian accounting and tax legislation.
  • Experience working with multiple companies and/or clients from different industries.
  • Experience with accounting software; knowledge of Ajur is a plus.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
