Role Overview

Our client is expanding its engineering organization and is looking for an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to contribute to the development of large-scale, high-availability backend systems powering modern online products. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building scalable services, and collaborating with experienced engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable software. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, improve engineering practices, and work on systems that handle significant transaction volumes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance backend services using modern Java technologies and the Spring ecosystem.
  • Deliver scalable, maintainable, and high-performance solutions for business-critical applications.
  • Participate in architectural discussions, helping shape technical solutions and platform evolution.
  • Produce clean, well-structured, and thoroughly tested code following established engineering standards.
  • Perform peer code reviews and contribute to improving overall code quality across the team.
  • Create unit tests, validate new functionality, and develop proof-of-concept implementations when evaluating technical approaches.
  • Apply secure development principles and software engineering best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize existing functionality, and continuously improve system performance and reliability.
  • Identify opportunities to refine development processes, tooling, and technical standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing backend applications with Java.
  • Strong hands-on experience building enterprise applications with the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, or related projects).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and microservice-based architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of multithreaded programming, concurrency, and application performance optimization.
  • Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and clean architecture.
  • Experience designing and optimizing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
  • Good understanding of HTTP, RESTful services, and modern backend communication patterns.
  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP and common application-layer protocols.
  • Experience writing automated tests and maintaining high code quality standards.
  • Comfortable participating in technical discussions, code reviews, and collaborative software development.

  • Experience working on high-traffic or highly available distributed platforms.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments and cloud-native application development.
  • Exposure to messaging technologies and asynchronous communication patterns.
